For five generations since 1899 when Bartolomeo Borgogno “The Patriarch” first produced the “King of Wines, the Wine of Kings” in the area of Garbelleto just 3Km from the centre of Barolo, son Dario, together with his wife Marriaje and grandson Alex continue to make this exceptional Barolo from the esteemed Altenasso plot. In recent years the number of large companies has multiplied making Barolo one of the greats of wine, but making a great Barolo is a story of “a craft” that employs expertise that comes from a cycle of work handed down that can never be substituted by industrial processes.
Made from 100% Nebbiolo the wine is intense, persistent yet delicate with a bouquet of dried rose petals and exotic spices unique to the Castiglione Falleto area.
On the palate, hints of blueberry and black plum reveal themselves with notes of candied orange peel, dried almonds and wood. Dry, but lightly fresh with warm soft tannin, well-structured and persistent the wine pairs well with fatty meats, game, truffle and aged cheese.
