The story of this wine begins in 1953 when Guido Baldissero bought the vineyards outside Treiso, wonderfully exposed and ideal for “a good wine”. Made for us now by Guido’s nephew, and one of the areas finest winemakers, Marco Lo Russo epitomises the customs of the great winemakers of the past, treating each vine differently, complying with it and directing it to enhance the grape before carefully vinifying it to produce this truly great wine. Made from 100% Nebbiolo from the upper parts, characterized by the high altitude and cooler temperature, the exposure is perfect for the development of a balanced and fragrant wine.
After soft crushing and subsequent maceration on the skins for 20-35 days, the wine is racked to oak barrels and aged for 20-22 months.
The colour is garnet with flashes of orange. On the nose it has notes of smoke and red fruits like red cherry and cranberry, as well as sweet and spicy scents from the maturation in barrels. On the pallet it is velvety at first, followed by rich tannins and then an overall smooth and long finish. Pairs well with roasted meat and game dishes, as well as aged and blue cheeses.
