Ghirada means ‘plot of land’ and the Cannonau grapes are grown on the Palagorrai vineyard in Mamoiada in central Sardinia, a region showing outstanding potential. The Mamoja sticker on the neck symbolises that Mussennore are part of the Mamoja Association, 1 of only 21 wineries, established in 2015 to promote higher standards than those required of the Cannonau di Sardegna DOC. This provides the guarantee that the wine has been made at low yields, with manual harvesting and the use of indigenous yeasts.
Tasting Notes:
Notes of ripe red berries, red plums, ripe blueberry, myrtle and elegant smoky toasted notes. The structure is full smooth tannins, good acidity and an intense persistent finish.
Serve at 18-20°C.
Vinification:
The grapes are harvested by hand and following a delicate pressing and maceration on the skins for around 20 days the fermentation takes place with indigenous years. The wine then ages in oak barrels for 10-12 months followed by a further number of months in the bottle.
